YOGA
Yoga is one of six classical systems of Hindu philosophy whose roots date back 5000 years. There are four classic Yogas: Karma Yoga (right acts and actions), Bhakti Yoga (devotion), Raja Yoga (meditation) and Jnana Yoga (inner wisdom or enlightenment). The classic four yogas have expanded into several other forms of Yoga. Hatha Yoga is part of Raja Yoga and concentrates on physical postures (Asanas). Initially, the goal was to strengthen the body so that it was possible to meditate over a longer period of time without physical pain. In Western Europe and North America, the term Yoga is often only associated with Hatha Yoga; the physical exercise.
With over 600 independent studios worldwide, Bikram Yoga is one of the most popular styles of Hatha Yoga. The series consists of 26 Hatha Yoga Asanas and two breathing exercises (Pranayama), which are conducted in a room heated to 40°C. The heat supports the deep muscle work, aids flexibility and detoxification of the body.
